San Marzano, 'Il Pumo', Primitivo, Salento IGP, Italy

A robust and rich red wine. Primitivo is a warm climate specialist and often leads to full bodied, powerful reds. In the USA, the grape Zinfandel is a close cousin of Primitvo, to give you some idea. This wine is intense, full of rich plaum and spice with hints of rosemary and vanilla toast. Powerful, yet soft and quite easy drinking considering the usual style of Primitivo.

In 1962, 19 vine growers from San Marzano whose families had farmed the land for generations, combined their efforts to establish 'Cantine San Marzano'. Through the decades this cooperative has grown significantly, attracting over 1,200 vine growers.
