This is a wine for the explorers. Really very special and delicious. A skin-contact Riesling from South Africa. Sharp citrus aromas with a great saline and chalky undertones. This is Remhoogte’s alternative Riesling. The wine has a specific haze due to the contact with the grape skins (and it is unfiltered).
Remhoogte was founded in 1812 and is based at the foot of the Simonsig mountain in Stellenbosch. It's claim to fame was that one of the world's oldest diamonds, called the 'Remhoogte' was found on the lands in the early 1800s and was purchased by Queen Victoria, and is cast into the Royal Crown (still there today). The soils on the state are over 250 million years old and are some of the oldest in the world to have vineyards on. The winery is also part of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative in South Africa, and have set aside 30% of the estate for native flora and fauna to grow and establish thereby increasing biodiversity on their lands.
