A lovely rich and smooth Aussie Shiraz. A very well known top end wine with a degree of pedigree. Plum, spice, and sweet soy aromas dominate with a chocolatey and dark fruit palate. Smooth tannins, rich and opulent, very well balanced. A multi-layered and complex wine with oodles of class. Very nice indeed and one for the Shiraz fans.
The Bin 28 wine was first made in 1959 and showcases a warm climate Shiraz experience. While the wine originally came from the Kalimna Vineyard in Barossa, now is a multi-region blend (like much of Penfolds wines), yet Barossa valley fruit is still majority component.
Penfolds are arguably the most iconic premium Australian winery, certainly in a global recognition sense. They started in the 1840s by a doctor who made medicinal wines from the nearby vineyards, it wasn't long before they realised the potential as a still red wine. The winery changed the course of wine history with their epic top wine "Grange" which was the first non-French wine to win a Paris wine show in the 1950s. Many of the Penfolds wines are highly collectible, and continue to impress.
