Molmenti & Celot, 'Cabernet Franc', 2019, Friuli, Italy

This is a very accomplished light red wine. As with many good Cab Franc wines, it has a leafy, earthy, and almost herbal aroma with a good palate of red fruits and an excellent dry and approachable finish. Very versatile and satusfying, and interetsing to discover the many different styles of wine in the Friuli region!

Cabernet Franc, though French name, is grown in the Friuli region (albeit in small quantities) along with many international varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. Due to it's mixed history and geographical location many different grapes are grown there, native and international (eg. Friulano alongside Sauvignon Blanc). There are also noticeable Slovenian, Austrian-Germanic, and Hungarian influences in the wine and gastronomy. Most of the wine made in the region is single varietal, being made form only one grape type.

Molmenti & Celot are two cousins who set up a winery after a bet. Seriously. They bet that if Daneiele Molmenti won the Gold Medal at the London 2012 Olympics in Kayaking they would start a childhood dream of starting a winery. He did win, and Molmenti & Celot was born! They started in 2014 with a Prosecco and then later added the still wines which have had rave reviews. They chose organic farming, high quality, precision style of winemaking. We're glad they did because the juice is brilliant!
