Le Ligérien, 'Le Vieux Breton, Le Clos Noiré', 2016, Chinon AOC, France

Chinon is one of those styles of wine that locally everyone adores, outside the area, few people know about. Versatile, supple, herbal, leafy, ripe, and delicious. A wine with excellent poise, an almost wide feeling, full of life, a touch of herb, earth, and leafiness on the nose. Soft tannins and very approachable.

This is a small batch artisanal wine with only 1,300 bottles produced.

The wine comes from the renowned Clos de Noiré vineyard, just outside of the town of Chinon and made famous by the likes of Philippe Alliet and the family Couly. Bruno Sourdais' parcel is owned by his in-laws, which he tends to sell it off en-vrac (in bulk) to his private clients who turn up at the cellar with large vessels. But it was so good Richard decided to bottle it and bring it to the UK.

The name of the Ligérien – comes from the Latin, Liger: a native of the Loire valley.

The Liberator range is an exciting range of wines made by the importer Richard Kelley MW in conjunction with other regional producers. His mission... to liberate lost or forgotten vineyard parcels and liberate them.
