Philippe Guérin, 'Abstraction #4', Merlot, 2019, Vin de France, France

A Loire based concept wine by accomplished and visionary winemaker Philippe Guérin. Abstraction no. 4 is a declassified Merlot wine from the Loire where Merlot is technically not allowed, or at least not awarded an appellation status. The results are great. Smooth, youthful, and lively Merlot full of juicy plum flavours and berry aromas.

Located in a quiet hamlet north of Vallet, Philippe is the 5th generation of his family to farm 30 hectares of vines within the communes of Vallet and Goulaine. Of these, 23 hectares are dedicated to the production of Muscadet, with the oldest vines approaching 90 years of age. The rest are a variety of different plots and experiments, like Abstraction 4 Merlot.
