The outstanding Gaja Promis. It still leads the way as arguably the most iconic super Tuscan wine for under £40. It's absolutely delicious. Full, rich, deep, and complex. Full of black fruits, spice, fruit and superbly balanced. This is a world class bottle which serves as a 'shop window' for the rest of the Gaja portfolio, some of which, like the flagship Barbaresco single vineyards, are some of the most collectible and revered wines in the world.
Can be drunk now, but will also benefit from 3-5 years in the cellar or wine fridge.
Gaja are arguably the most sought after and globally revered Italian winery of all. Only a few wineries in Italy have the same level of acclaim and adoration. Originally the winery dates back to 1800s, and is best known for it's Barbaresco wines. However it was Angelo Gaja who joined in 1961 that revolutionised them, and also Italian fine wine in general. He brought new techniques, a philosophy of declassification (he was the first to plant Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon in traditional Piemonte plots),, and attention to quality. Nowadays, the day to day running of the winery is overseen by his daughter Gaia Gaja.
