CVNE, 'Barrel Fermented' Rioja Blanco, 2018, Rioja DO, Spain

A Rioja classic, and still delicious to this day. An elegant white Rioja, with aromatic intensity. Lovely tropical and juicy aromas of pineapple, apple, and banana which are rounded off by the classic toasty oak this wine is known for - resulting from fermentation taking place in barrels, rather than steel vessels. It's still fresh and refined, yet complex, nutty, tropical, and juicy, a with a wonderful depth of flavour.

CVNE (colloquially pronounced 'coonay') is one of the top prestigious 5 or 6 Rioja producers in the region. They were founded in 1879 as the Compañía Vinícola del Norte del España (CVNE), in Haro, Rioja by two brothers. Descendants of those brothers are still attached to the winery. In 1940 they were the first to use concrete fermenter tanks in Spain. Today CVNE is recognised as one of the top Rioja producers, a benchmark for quality, and their wines are popular around the world.
