A superb Lalande de Pomerol wine for the money. For £27 a bottle this is really great stuff. A well respected estate and from the excellent 2016 vintage which was one of the best performing years in the Right Bank area during the 2010s.
The wine is from the Lalande-de-Pomerol AOC which sits right beside Pomerol.
An open and accessible rounded red with good plum, cedar, and cigar box aromas. Lovely deep fruits. Fine tannins, good grip, and a long satisfying finish. Everything you would want in a Pomerol. Merlot driven, and softer than the left bank. A really versatile wine. Concrete fermentations and 12 months in oak ageing.
Château Tournefeuille is based in the village of Neac inside Lalande de Pomerol AOC, between Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. It is opposite the world famous properties Chateau Petrus and Chateau Gazin which lies across the La Barbanne river. Wine has been made at Château Tournefeuille for over 200 years and 1785 is the first mention of production. They have high quality vineyard plots of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
