Spain used to be the epicentre of rustic tradition and cheap volume. Big, oaky, over concentrated red wines, clunky buttery whites, or very acidic cheaper bottles that were price slashed and pumped off the shelf.
There is still a bit of that going on, but Spain is turning a corner.
In our opinion it's one of the most exciting places right now for wine. There are loads of young winemakers and visionaries modernizing and changing styles, embracing ethical methods, and producing boutique classy clean wines. There's still the classic Rioja's and big names leading the way, but there is so much more variety to be found than ever before!
