Shiraz is Syrah, just the English term for it, and we in the UK tend to refer to it as Shiraz much like the Aussies, and South Africans.
It's original home is South-eastern France, paritcularly the Rhône valley where it goes into many of the famous wines there. But now you can find it grown all over the world. The most popular country style is Australia Shiraz which is a UK favourite!
Shiraz, or Syrah, produces fairly strong red wines which often has a distinctive black pepper, menthol, blackberry fruit aroma to it. They can often age very well, and due to the aromatics, can be very complex and luscious.
