Romania seems like an odd country to make wine. Certainly, we don't know a lot about what goes on there in the Anglo world. But Romania has incredibly high quality lands which have the potential to have excellent vineyards. It's an ancient wine country, like many other Black Sea states, and wine has been made in Romania a very long time. It's not new to them at all and they are very good at it.

The problem is between economics, politics, war and all the other things that have happened - technology and wine knowledge has been lacking, leading to sometimes inferior product. But this is changing, and we are now seeing the true potential of Romanian wine.
