Grüner Veltliner is the signature white wine grape of Austria, though it is grown in neighbouring countries also. It's perfect in cooler climates and usually develops into a light, almost aromatic, zesty, fresh, and mineral laden white wine. It's fantastic with high acidity foods, seafood, and vegetables.
Austria's most planted variety is Grüner Veltliner and it accounts for over 30% of all vineyard areas. But despite it's large production, the Austrians can produce world class wines from it and some of these examples are iconic and highly prized.
