Austria is not always placed into the top prestigious wine countries of the world, but it should certainly be among them. Some of Austria's white wines are some the finest in the world and they have a long tradition of quality wine making.

As it's a colder climate, expect the reds to be mostly fruity, light, and full of vibrancy; and the whites to be clean, zesty, racy and fresh. The most common grape you usually tend to find coming out of Austria is the white wine grape Gruner Veltliner: and aromatic variety which is fantastic with salads, seafoods, or pickled nibbles.
